Kindness at its best
It was heartening to read about another case of a person who did not seek recognition for his good deed (Doctor on way to work saves man who suffered heart attack at Yishun MRT station and had no pulse, Sept 8).
These quiet acts of kindness, as reported in the media over the years, are in stark contrast to the norm these days, when everything is broadcast on social media to garner clicks and likes. I would like to applaud these good Samaritans for leading by example, and showing what it truly means to be caring Singaporeans looking out for one another.

CPF Life as qualifying income source
CPF Life is the compulsory annuity scheme for all Singaporeans born in 1958 and after.
Many retirees will have only this source of income upon retirement. As it is a lifelong income guaranteed by the Government, the Monetary Authority of Singapore and banks should allow CPF Life payouts to be used as a source of monthly income for retirees to qualify for credit cards.

PAP-NTUC cooperation a good thing
As a European who has had a lot of experience with unions in Europe and Australia, I fully support the cooperation between the People’s Action Party and NTUC (PAP and WP MPs clash over ruling party’s close ties with NTUC, Sept 9).
In Europe, the unions call for strikes just to justify their existence and do not care about the consequences. There is no tripartite dialogue. So please keep the cooperation going, which does well for Singapore and could be good for other countries too.
