School holiday workshops at Great World

Join children’s workshops during the week-long September school holidays at Great World. The mall has lined up free and paid activities at the atrium with its tenants until Sept 8.

For instance, on Sept 2 and 3, your kids can bring their old T-shirts and upcycle them into tote bags or pillowcases. Recommended for children aged from five, the 30-minute free session organised by Liliewoods Social will be guided by Raffles Girls’ School (Secondary) students.

If your kids are aged five to eight, hone their critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with Math Olympiad-style challenges by The Eton Academy in free sessions on Sept 4 and 6.

Meanwhile, children aged eight to 12 can create art pieces using watercolour and paper crafts (from $10 a child) with teachers from Abrakadoodle Art Studio on Sept 4, 6 and 7.

There are also storytelling sessions, magic and bubble shows, and movie screenings.

The Race Around The Moon Mandarin play

Following its 2023 English staging, The Race Around The Moon returns as a Mandarin theatre production. PHOTO: GATEWAY THEATRE

Legendary characters the moon goddess Chang’e, immortal woodcutter Wu Gang and the jade rabbit are taking the stage again at arts centre Gateway Theatre.

Catch them in a Mandarin staging of The Race Around The Moon, which debuted as an English production in 2023.

The reimagined tale puts the three celestial friends in a race for the coveted prize of a family reunion. But as they battle it out, can their friendship survive?

Playwright Teo Pei Si, who is also known as Gongxin, hopes the play will help young audiences aged five to 10 understand that winning is not everything.

“It celebrates the strength of friendship and the lessons that we can learn from losing,” says Teo. “It is not the result that matters, but the journey and memories formed along the way.”

There are two shows daily on Sept 7, 8, 14 and 15 at Gateway Theatre’s Sky Garden. Tickets are priced at $30 a person.

School bookings are also available from Sept 4 to 13.
